TopicDomestic Security
ContentRe-evalute the practice of putting sensitive information on web-based applications. I fear we have set ourselves up for some very serious consequences should the Internet be attacked. My concerns are in many areas including, but not limited to, public safety, public utilities, transportation, financial data, personal identifying information, health records, and communication. The Internet is a wonderful source for information and communication, however, it is not the place I would want anything that had to do with security or confidential data. Have we jumped in too fast and put too much out there? Can we support the level of expertise that is needed to keep our information secure? Is it too late to reconsider and remove sensitive data? I would suggest that we organize a group of experts to advise us on this issue. We need to know what alternatives are out there. Then I would hope that we would put security/confidentiality at the top of our list when investing into any future computer software/applications and make any necessary adjustments to what we currently have in place.
