The money wasted in elections could be used in better ways, such as medical research and education. Putting a limit on the amount of money one can spend in his or her campaign would have candidates of character emerge rather than just candidates of great wealth. Limiting campaign funding would encourage candidates to donate more money to more worthwhile causes, as well as open the door for more financially-modest people to run for a political office.
